Happy 1st Blogiversary!!!

Create (Photo taken by Selena Bullock)I am so excited, it’s been a year since I first started blogging, so it is the blogiversary of CreativityorCrazy. I wasn’t sure blogiversary was even a word, but it can be found in the Urban Dictionary. Blogs come and blogs go, but somehow I’ve managed to continue blogging and have no desire to stop anytime soon. I fell short of posting twice a week, but I can say I managed to post something every month of 2012.

In the beginning I really knew next to nothing about blogging, but have really learned my way around. I now love blogging and the sense of community that comes from blogging. I enjoy reading comments left by readers of this blog(thank you), reading the blog posts of others, and getting to know some of my fellow bloggers a little better. Makes the world not seem such a lonely place.

This blog has turned into something a bit different, not just freelance writing, but a wider variety of writing as I’m trying to find my way. If you’ve been following this blog for a bit, you know I do have a fondness for memoir and personal essays. Writing from real life comes easier to me than fiction, though I will try it on occasion. There will be poetry from time to time as well as I enjoy writing poetry.

The main thing I can say I’ve learned from blogging and writing is do not let the opinions of others deter you from following your heart. My writing highlights of last year were having a poem published and being able to say I wrote a book(which may never go further than being written, but it’s written). Well, going to go do some writing, so happy blogging! 🙂

Your thoughts are always welcome… 🙂

Blog Planning

One of the things I hope to accomplish this year, is to be more organized overall, but especially in regards to my blogging. If you know me real well…no laughing allowed. I know it seems a life goal of mine I’ve been at a while, but hope springs eternal. 🙂 It doesn’t mean there will be a dramatic surge in my blogging though. I still think twice a week is a good goal for my often chaotic life.

Now, I will never be one of those bloggers so organized that I have blog posts scheduled in advance to be sent out. No offense against doing that, it’s just not me. I tend to be one of those who just wings it and wants to blog when the inspiration strikes. In an effort to keep up with my little random notes about blog posts and maybe to blog with a little more regularity, I thought a blog planner might be just what I need.

I thought of creating my own blog planning sheet, but decided to go searching the internet. The blog planners I found ranged from a simple weekly page to creating a 60 page blog planning book you could have comb bound at the local office store. I decided to go with one of the simple ones. If you are looking for a way to be a little more of an organized blogger here are some links to several free printables for blog planning I found :

Oh The Lovely Things

Homeschool Creations

Living Locurto(This is the one I decided to use. It was simple enough for my needs and pretty!)

Infarrantly Creative

Mamma Jenn

Confessions of a Homeschooler(This one is so beautiful, but I do love the ornate as shown by some of my favorite writing notebooks. 🙂 )

Last but not least, Detail-Oriented Diva has a post about an incredible blog planner she made, which is a little different and has a neat ribbon velcro closure too.

Thoughts or ideas? Any good organizing tips for blogging you’d like to share?… 🙂

Fresh Start to 2013

Here’s hoping 2013 will be a better year. I’m recharged and planning to leave the past in the past. I’m ready to make a fresh start in 2013. This will mean some changes, so please be patient with me.

I will be playing around with my blog a little(already changed the theme today). Just trying some new things out. Will take some time till I get things comfortable and sorted out. It’s like rearranging furniture.

I’m trying to motivate myself as well, so I guess creating some goals are the way to go. I’ve given this some thought. I did try to make sure I have realistic goals, so I don’t set myself up for failure. A big part of being realistic is knowing I have a bit of a chaotic life most of the time. Without further adieu, here are the goals…

Writing Goals for 2013 :
(will be doing more writing than this, but it’s a start)
1. Blog twice a week(continued from 2012-failed last year 😦 )

2. Read 2 books per month

3. Complete the 100k in 100 days Challenge(read more about over at Quiller’s Place or 100k in 100 days facebook group)

4. Find and join a local writer’s group

5. Finish poetry book

6. Work on revamping blog a bit

Feel free to share your thoughts and maybe some of your goals for 2013… 🙂

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog. I’m not much of a stat person, but was thankful to WordPress.com for this interesting surprise. This was a nice gift for them to do for bloggers. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 2,000 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 3 years to get that many views.

Sweet Treats

Christmas

Christmas

I have a few treats to share today. My sweetest treat is my first official poem has been published at The Barefoot Review in the Winter 2012 issue. I hope you’ll pop over and read it.

I’ve also been nominated for the Beautiful Blogger award from Vikki over at The View Outside blog. Not doing it properly yet, will try to do catch up, but wanted to take time to say “Thank You”. I know some beautiful bloggers I’d like to nominate too.

Another sweet treat, I discovered yesterday over at the Mere Inkling blog, while reading about personal libraries.  There’s an offer to send off for 10 free letterpress bookmarks, just at the cost of an envelope and SASE. You can find out more about the offer over at Peach Farm Studio. It expires soon, requests have to be there by December 31st.

The last sweet treat is the recipe for my now official favorite treat…decadent chocolate meringues. I have to make more as we ate the first batch. 🙂 These are really easy to make. I use my kitchen mixer to whip them up as I’ve never had success whipping egg whites by hand. The mixer makes quick work of it.

Put 2 egg whites, 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar, a pinch of salt, and 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract in the mixer bowl. Beat till soft peaks form, then gradually add in 2 Tbsp. cocoa powder and 1/2 cup of sugar, beating till stiff peaks form. May take about 7 or 8 minutes.

Drop by teaspoonfuls on a baking sheet. I try to swirl it around with the spoon and leave it with a nice pretty peak on top. Bake at 225 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. These last a long time and are great for gift giving to the chocolate lovers in your life.

Blog of the Year 2012 Award

I’m running a little behind, but still wanted to take the time to say “Thank You” to Vikki over at The View Outside. She nominated my blog for Blog of the Year 2012 award. You can pop over to The Thought Palette blog, who created the award, to learn more about the Blog of the Year 2012 Award.

20121203-083745.jpg

I have one gold star, but anyone who is nominated can get nominated again for up to a total of 6 gold stars.

The ‘rules’ for this award are simple:

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012′ Award

2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen — there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required — and ‘present’ them with their award.

3 Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012′ Award — http://thethoughtpalette.co.uk/our-awards/blog-of-the-year-2012-award/ and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)

4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them.

5 You can now also join the Facebook group — click ‘like’ on the page above ‘Blog of the Year 2012′ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience.

6 As a winner of the award — please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award — and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…

Yes — that’s right — there are stars to collect!

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once — this award is different!

When you begin you will receive the ’1 star’ award — and every time you are given the award by another blog — you can add another star!

There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

20121203-083712.jpg

Which means that you can check out your favorite blogs — and even if they have already been given the award by someone else — you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!

The nominations I’d like to make for the Blog of the Year 2012 Award are these bloggers, who are truly inspiring :

Just Driving Along

Mountains Along the Drive

Mountains Along the Drive

It’s been a long week, but there have been some good points to it.  Here are the highlights.  I can now say, “officially” the longest drive I have ever driven by myself is about 8 hours.  It was to Tennessee this past Friday.  Once there, I was able to give my daughter a big hug for the first time in over a month and I was able to see one of my wonderful friends I had not seen in a long time.  The best news is my daughter is now back home in North Carolina.  We love calling North Carolina home.  There is much to be said for family, friends, and home.

This detour is not unusual.  My life has been full of detours in the last ten years.  I’m just getting a little better at accepting the detours, learning a little, and continuing the drive along the highways of life.  I just wish the journey wasn’t so rough sometimes and the rest stops to relax could last a bit longer.  I’m tired, but I keep plodding along.  (I found out kicking and screaming really didn’t work to well! 🙂 )

The writing journey continues as well, though the past couple of weeks it’s slowed down to more the speed of driving through town than on the interstate.  I’ve journaled quite a bit and enjoy being able to say anything in my journal.  It’s my “safe” place.  There’s security in the fact no one can judge me in my journal and no one can stop me from saying anything(just myself).

My other writing has primarily been a few poems and working on my memoir.  My main WIP, the memoir, has now reached over 30K words.  It’s nearing completion, meaning the story is about done being told regardless of the word count.  I have a few ideas of a couple of things I want to include at the end of the book that I need to work on though.

Just wanted to say hi.  I miss blogging and will try to share more again soon.  I’ve been reading some wonderful books I’d love to tell you about as well. In the mean time here’s something you can check out I’ve just begun discovering called Evernote.  I’m still exploring it.  It allows you to have digital notes and notebooks.  Just a few of the things I’ve found I like are you can access your files on multiple devices, share files with others, and email files to your self.  It may end up being a favorite.

Sunshine Award

I’m very happy Kat Collins nominated this blog for the Sunshine Award.  Thank you!  If you’ve read some of my posts before, you know she’s one of my favorite bloggers about writing.  I just finished reading a post over on her blog about journaling.

I love questions, but then I’m a curiosity type person.  Here are the questions I’m suppose to answer :

1. Who is your favorite philosopher?

I’ll say C.S. Lewis, because much of what I’ve read about his thoughts on life make sense to me.  He was a faithful man and he loved nature.  I’ve enjoyed many post over at Mere Inkling, which have been about his philosophies.

2. What is your favorite number?    3 has always been, because there have been 3 people in my family

3. What is your favorite animal?  cats…still without a doubt…

4. What are your Facebook and Twitter?   on facebook my user name is sabrina.bullock.90…there is no twitter as I don’t tweet

5. What is your favorite time of day?   Night is my favorite time of day because I love the moonlight and stars.

6. What was your favorite vacation?   My favorite vacation was going to the beach with my daughter for her 18th birthday.

7. What is your favorite physical activity?   It’s a toss up between yoga or swimming.  I love both.

8. What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink?   sweet iced tea

9. What is your favorite flower?   lavender

10. What is your passion?   This is a hard to narrow down question.  I’m passionate about many things :  family, faith, love, writing, reading, and the freedom for women to give birth where they choose (home, birth center, hospital).
